4 Tier Offset Wedding Cake

We created this 4-tier offset square cake for a wedding reception held at Rush Creek Golf Club in Maple Grove. I love how simple and elegant this design is, especially when adding the ribbon border to match the reception colors. A full size cake (enough to serve all the guests in attendance) makes such a beautiful showpiece at a reception.

Congratulations!

Hand Painted Old World Map Cake

We've been at it again... making cakes that is! Here is an amazing cake and I'm giving all the credit to Joe. I'm not sure if our readers know this, but Joe doesn't have any formal culinary background. He'll tell you that he does love to eat, which I admit is an important element of owning a food related business. But his artistic abilities are far more advanced than mine. I may be able to bake a cake, ice, stack it and cover it in fondant. But the real magic begins when Joe is able to transform a plain cake into a work of art.

The couple that ordered this cake came to visit us back in March. They met in Germany while attending a camp a couple of years ago. He's originally from Canada and she from the States. They had a wonderful idea to create a cake that resembled an Old World Globe to represent the different places they had been. We absolutely loved the idea!

And so we set out to decide the best way to execute this cake. The couple mentioned they preferred light, muted colors which would match the decor at their reception site, The Semple Mansion. I marbled the fondant with pale pinks and orange and then handed the blank canvas over to Joe. A little nervous, I left the room and let him concentrate. I guess he would doodle the world map in middle school and said he could hand paint the continents. "Really?", I asked. I was going to have to see this to believe it.

He wasn't joking. When I returned a couple of hours later he had finished hand painting the entire world onto two tiers of cake. Absolutely marvelous!

Golf Themed Cupcake Tower

Although we create a lot of desserts for weddings, that's certainly not all we do! We were asked by a repeat client to create a golf themed cupcake tower for her husband's 50th birthday. (We created our famous flip flop cake for her 50th party last year!)

Here's a close up shot of the cake which served as the topper for the cupcake tower. Joe had a lot of fun putting this one together!

The amazing colors were even more vibrant in person.

We created this great 4-tier cake covered in fondant and accented with eggplant and orange colored ribbon.
Flavor Included:
Pumpkin Cake with Cream Cheese Icing
Vanilla Bean Cake with Chocolate Buttercream
Valrhona Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Buttercream
Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing

A great shot of the bride enjoying the cake! Congratulations!

Topsy Turvy Bat Mitzvah Cake

It seems as though we've been busy making cake after cake here at Cocoa & Fig! But we never get bored because each cake has its own unique flair. Check out this crazy topsy turvy cake that was designed by our 13-year-old client, Mikaela! Mikaela spent time researching cake designs on the internet. She chose her favorite features from a variety of cakes and we were able to create a custom design for her.

Mikaela was looking for something big and bold for her Bat Mitzvah and I think we achieved that with this 3-Tier Topsy Turvy Cake decorated in bright colors.

Close-up shot of the giant red bow that wrapped around the second tier.
Cake flavor is Chocolate with Vanilla Buttercream.

A Cocoa & Fig dessert table would not be complete without a few Miniature Desserts.
Key Lime Pie Shooters and Fresh Fruit Tartlets complete the spread.

Hydrangea Wedding Cake

We are so honored to have the opportunity to work with such wonderful couples! From the first time we meet them, through the tasting and on to their big day. Each couple is unique and each dessert we create for them is different than anything we've done before.... so much fun! Here's a peak at a hydrangea wedding cake we created a few weeks ago and delivered to 317 on Rice Park in St. Paul. The bride brought us a picture she found online and asked if we could use it as a guide in creating her cake. We designed this 3-tiered cake with cascading hydrangea flowers in shades of cranberry and tangerine, the same colors used for the fresh flower wedding bouquets.

Cascading Hydrangea Wedding Cake

Close up of the flower detail. I won't tell you exactly how many flowers we made, but let's just say it took two people many hours!

The bride and groom also ordered an assortment of baby cakes to be placed in the center of each guest table. Each baby cake was topped with a coordinating hydrangea flower to match the wedding cake.

Flavors included:
Vanilla + Vanilla
Chocolate + Chocolate
Almond + Raspberry
